Cornwall Opportunities Careers Magazine Issue 2
Cornwall Opportunities, the online portal dedicated to careers, courses and skills in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, has published the latest edition of its magazine connecting local people with careers help, skills workshops and lifelong learning.
The first edition of the magazine, published last year, was a resounding success, and the second edition has just been released (8th January) to kick off the new year.
Cornwall Opportunities was developed after receiving £257,000 from the UK Government through the G7 Legacy Fund. The portal is managed and delivered by the People and Prosperity team within Cornwall Council's Economy and Skills Service.
Key features of the website include a searchable database of hundreds of jobs, apprenticeships and courses, as well as guidance and resources for both individuals and businesses on education, hiring and getting hired, and skills building.
The accompanying magazine aims to further help the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly find work or a new career as well as promoting the benefits of upskilling.
The second edition of the magazine features key statistics on the state of Cornwall's labour market, a feature on the Construction and Built Environment sector and the Creative sector as well as Supported Internships.
Councillor Louis Gardner, Portfolio Holder for Economy at Cornwall Council (pictured above), said:
"In this edition we turn the spotlight on two sectors of importance to the Duchy; Construction and Creative Industries, both of which offer incredible opportunities for growth and long term career development. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the resources highlighted in this issue and on the Cornwall Opportunities website, to not only find employment but to shape a fulfilling and rewarding career."
The magazine highlights the help not only offered by Cornwall Opportunities but also through local educational providers and careers services. Highlights include the Smart Steps Employability Programme, which aims to build people skills and confidence within the job market, as well as the People Hub's free advice and support for getting into employment, job training or fully funded qualifications.
It also focuses on the power of parents in supporting children to find their feet in education, employment or training, and there is a feature about volunteering as a powerful tool for personal and professional development, as well as giving back to the community.
The Cornwall Opportunities magazine is free to all and available to read directly on the Cornwall Opportunities website. To find out more about this resourceful careers portal and read the latest edition of the magazine, visit
